The York Handmade Brick Company, one of the leading independent brickmakers in the
country, was shortlisted for the Best Refurbishment Project award in the prestigious 2005
Brick Awards. York Handmade, based at Alne, near Easingwold, in North Yorkshire, won
the accolade for its work on Millington Hall, a 16th century heritage public house and
restaurant in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. Last year York Handmade won the same award
for the acclaimed walled garden and new restaurant at Scampston Hall, near Malton.

These national awards, run by the Brick Development Association in conjunction with Building magazine, are the brick industry’s Oscars.

David Armitage, the chairman and managing director of York Handmade, commented: We were proud to have been associated with such an attractive and successful scheme as Millington Hall. It further confirms our pedigree as manufacturer of genuine handmade bricks which look comfortable in any traditional structure. I am particularly pleased that this reflects so well on all our employees who work so hard to bring the company success.
