‘The Company’s greatest asset is the natural resource of Lacustrine Triassic
Mudstone clay, a glacial deposit ideal for the purpose of making bricks and
tiles. We also have a stock of buff burning clay which comes from a factory
which no longer operates but the clay continues to be used in products made
here at York Handmade. An array of mixers and rollers grind the clay down
to a finer mix. This ensures the clay is a suitable texture for hand throwing a
quality brick. Additives to create different blends such as Sand and Coke
breeze are mixed in at this stage. The rollers and mixers ensure that these
additives are mixed into the body of the brick to ensure total consistency.’
